Susan Collins said on Thursday that she is "extremely alarmed" over the firing of U.S. CDC Director Susan Monarez, who was let go by the Trump administration this week following a reported clash with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over vaccine policy. Four other leaders at the CDC also resigned this week citing the politicization of their jobs and issues with leadership.

A 24-year-old who played soccer for a club in Lewiston was recently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and members of his team say they’re feeling the loss. Malunda Destino was detained by ICE last week and is currently in custody in Massachusetts. Destino has been playing for Lewiston’s Maine Legends FC for about two years and was “one of the best players,” the team’s captain, Manuel Vemba, said on Thursday. 

Residential property values in Portland increased by an average of 43% over the last year, according to a citywide revaluation that was finalized this week. Before the revaluation, the median residential home value was $396,700 in 2024. Now, it’s $566,600, according to the city tax assessor, a reflection of the ongoing housing crisis that’s been driven by high demand and limited inventory.
