Supporters of Graham Platner’s U.S. Senate campaign say they’re sticking with the political newcomer – even after his political director quit – despite the emergence of embarrassing and controversial social media statements about racism, sexual assault in the military and police officers. The head of the Democratic National Committee said Sunday that Platner’s comments are not disqualifying. 

 Nirav Shah, the former director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention and a top federal health official during the Biden administration, announced Monday that he is entering the race for governor. The Democrat joins 18 other candidates who so far have registered with the state vying to replace Gov. Janet Mills, who is term limited, in 2026
