Fall in Maine

Down East Extra - There’s a reason people come from away to experience fall in Maine. The foliage here isn’t just pretty, it's breathtaking. A few weeks ago, we asked for your favorite leaf-peeping spots, and you delivered. Cobbosseecontee Lake, with its mirror-like reflections, the Somesville Library, on Mount Desert Island, framed by blazing maples, Acadia’s trails glowing with reds and golds, and the wild stretches of Baxter State Park all perfectly capture the best of Maine during this season.

But let's be honest, the list could go on forever. The Blue Hill Peninsula is full of windy back roads and overlooks that feel like they were painted just to scratch that leaf-peeping itch. The Camden Hills reward a short climb with views of Penobscot Bay surrounded by peak color, and I could spend hours just soaking it all in.

What makes Maine fall something else is how it unfolds all across the state. Northern forests light up first, the mountains follow, and the coast holds onto its last bursts of color. Before you head out, check out the latest Maine Foliage Report to make sure your destination hasn't passed peak.
