News Center Maine - A summer day with sweltering heat didn’t stop crowds from gathering at Estabrook’s in Pownal. It wasn’t a plant sale or seasonal event that drew the attention, however. It was the unveiling of the garden center's new high-tech greenhouse. “It is the most state-of-the-art greenhouse in the state of Maine,” Tom Estabrook, president of Estabrook’s, said.
This innovative new facility represents more than just the next phase of growth for the company. It marks the realization of over 30 years of hard work, according to Estabrook.
The greenhouse features an advanced watering system designed with sustainability in mind. One of its standout features is a flood-floor system. “Basically, it waters the plants and then recycles all the water into large tanks, so there’s no runoff for the environment,” Estabrook explained.
