Press Herald - Under intense pressure and the threat of a lawsuit from Republicans and gun rights groups, Democrats reversed course and agreed to hold a public hearing on a citizens initiative 'red flag' referendum. The hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday on the initiative that would make it easier to temporarily remove access to firearms from people who are in a crisis.

News Center Maine -   Since the first weekend of spring, we've been stuck in this awful pattern that's been bringing wet weather like clockwork. Weekend after weekend, we've had at least one day of rain plaguing outdoor plans with rain delays or cancellations. After digging through some data, it turns out this is the rainiest spring stretch of weekends we've had in at least 77 years.

WABI TV -  Governor Janet Mills has joined a coalition of democratic governors in condemning President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops and Marines to combat anti-immigration enforcement protests in Los Angeles....

In the letter sent out by the Democratic Governor’s association, Mills alongside 21 other governors voice their support of [California Governor] Newsom. Saying he is the Commander in Chief of the California National Guard and that it is “important we respect the executive authority of our Country’s governors.” The statement also argues that the decision indicates a lack of trust in local law enforcement by the Trump administration.

My Wayne County Now -   Maine’s right turn on red rule remains consistent as of 2025: drivers are allowed to make a right turn after stopping at a red light, unless a sign specifically prohibits it....When making a right turn on red, drivers must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk and to other traffic that is lawfully in the intersection. Failure to yield can result in fines and demerit points on a driver’s record. Red light violations generally carry a fine between $121 and $146, and add four demerit points.

92 Moose FM - Back in 2019, Maine finally passed its very own 'death with dignity' law. According to the Kennebec Journal, the way the current Maine law works is that once a terminally ill patient meets a certain criteria, they can be approved for the medication that will end their life on their terms. However, once the medication is approved, there is a mandatory 17 day wait period before the patient is allowed access to it. This has proven to be a challenge in multiple instances where a patient requests death with dignity, is approved, and then died prior to ever receiving the medication.

There has now been a new proposal in the Maine legislature to waive that 17 day waiting period. However, it was rejected by just one vote on Monday inside the Maine Senate chamber the KJ reported.

Now because of the failure in the Senate, the Bill will have to makes its way back through the house and eventually the senate again and, if it passes, would eventually make its way to Governor Mills' desk for its final signature to become law.
