Maine educators adding climate change to their programs

News Center Maine -  Maine educators are expanding climate learning opportunities for students as warmer temperatures and extreme weather events alter the state’s natural environment.

A new Climate Literacy Plan aims to help teachers tackle climate change at all grade levels and inspire students to take climate action in their own communities.

Teddy Lyman, climate education specialist for the Maine Department of Education, said nearly 30 locally-designed projects for educators are underway statewide with 10 more in development.

“As Mainers, we can all find ways in which we love being outside and helping students and teachers engage with the outdoors is really central to this program,” Lyman explained.
