Press Herald - Fewer visitors came to Maine last year, but those who did spent more. The Maine Office of Tourism reported there were 14.15 million visitors in 2025, down 4.4% from the year before. Even so, visitors last year spent $9.37 billion, up 1.4% from 2024. Less than 5% of visitors came from other countries in 2025, with most — 3.6% — coming from Canada. That number is down from 2024, with 5.4% of visitors coming from Canada.
Graham Platner, the presumptive Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, is calling for an end to federal taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel as part of a sweeping energy policy proposal unveiled Friday. The candidate also called for a four-year freeze on electricity rate increases. “Mainers can no longer afford (U.S. Sen.) Susan Collins, her party, or the crony capitalism that has handed over our essential public infrastructure to oil companies, private equity, and foreign-owned utilities,” the plan says.
