Maine Senate Democratic Campaign Committee -  The leading super PAC for Senate Republicans just announced they plan on spending $42 million in Maine this cycle. Not only is that a whole lot of money, but it means that Maine is a top priority for GOP groups across the country.

Press Herald -  Expansion of ranked-choice voting would be unconstitutional, Maine high court finds. The opinion issued Monday comes as lawmakers are considering a bill, LD 1666, to expand ranked-choice voting to races for governor and the state Legislature.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court issued its unanimous opinion in response to a request from lawmakers that they weigh in on the legality of a bill, LD 1666, currently before them. The measure would expand the state’s ranked-choice voting system, which is currently used for federal races and state primaries.

“Based on the language and structure of the Constitution itself, we conclude that L.D. 1666… would, if enacted, violate the Maine Constitution,” the justices wrote in their order.

Newscenter Maine -    When the calendar flips to April, thoughts of warmer days, blooming flowers, and enjoyable weather comes to mind. Of course, in Maine, it's never that simple. More often than not we are dealing with significant snowfall during the month.

One of the biggest April snowstorms in recent memory occurred just 2 years ago

Just two years ago, in 2024, Maine saw one of the biggest April snowstorms in recent memory. A widespread swath of 12-18" of heavy, wet snow fell across the state with over 300,000 outages resulting. The highest totals with this storm were over 20"!

The past two Aprils have featured measurable snow, and April 2026 looks to continue that trend for many parts of Maine.

....Measurable snow in April is also pretty common in Maine. For both Portland and Bangor, around 20 of the last 30 Aprils have seen measurable (0.1"+) amounts of snow, so around 67% of Aprils.

April snowfall averages around 2" in southern Maine to 6" or more in the northern part of the state and the mountains.

As Mainers face steep electricity prices, driven largely by the cost of natural gas, proposed legislation may provide some relief. If signed into law, the measure, LD 1730, would allow electricity customers to use certain small solar generation and battery systems, which plug directly into wall sockets, similar to gas generators.

Maine Morning StarMaine Attorney General Aaron Frey is part of the coalition that sued the Trump administration over the mail-in voting order.  “Despite the fact that a president has absolutely no authority to dictate election processes, President Trump only further demonstrates his contempt for free and fair elections as he seeks to engineer the outcome of the next election by interfering with how citizens vote by mail,” Frey said in a statement Friday. “More troubling is how this executive order, with its call for the creation of a national voter list and executive branch control over how absentee ballots are mailed, is further evidence of this president’s assault on our longstanding democratic processes.”
