Maine News Saturday

Daily attendance data from Maine school districts during the January Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation shows that more than 4,000 students a day missed school at the height of the operation across some of the state’s largest and most diverse districts. Maine schools do not collect data on students’ immigration status, but absentee rates for multilingual students show starkly elevated absences during that period.

An arctic cold front and a low-pressure system are likely to converge along New England’s coastline Saturday, bringing snow to southern Maine in the morning and dangerously cold temperatures statewide by evening, forecasters say. Wind chills will make it feel closer to 10 to 15 below zero along the coast, around minus 20 in central Maine, and even minus 25 in areas including Rangeley and Jackman.
