Maine Ulster-Scots Project Roundtable |
NEW MUSP INITIATIVE: Open Roundtables - Starting on January 12th and continuing bi-monthly through the winter and spring, the Maine Ulster-Scots Project will host online discussions on the Ulster-Scots who settled in Maine. We hope to explore various topics, including family stories and genealogy, their origins and experiences upon arrival, Scottish/ Ulster and Maine history, and topics of specific interest to YOU! Each virtual meeting will have a topic introduced and discussed by the moderator for a short time. The floor will then be open for participants to continue discussing or move to other topics raised by the group. These are planned to be open conversations that provide opportunities for all to learn more, share your family’s Ulster-Scot story, and ask questions. We hope you will join us for our first ZOOM roundtable, which will take place from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on January 12th, 2026. |

Melanie Sachs - After a great deal of thought and reflection, I have decided that I will not be seeking reelection as your State Representative. And I promise—this is not an announcement that I am running for anything else! I am truly stepping back to spend more time with my family (I think many of you know that my beloved husband retired eighteen months ago.)
I will continue to work hard as your State Representative through the end of my term this November. Serving in this role has been an incredible honor. I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunity to collaborate with so many dedicated people. This experience has reinforced every day how much our community means to me.
I am proud of what we have accomplished together (so far!) and remain confident in what lies ahead for Freeport. Thank you for your support, encouragement, and partnership throughout this journey and in these remaining months.
