Town of Freeport - The Silver Bullet recycling container on Hunter Road (near the Public Works building) will be removed on Monday, January 5, 2026 and will no longer be available.
After reviewing financial and environmental impacts, the Town Council voted to remove this container. If you’d like to learn more, you can watch the discussion from the November 18 Town Council meeting at our YouTube link, which includes presentations from the Freeport Sustainability Advisory Board and former ecomaine Board representative Rod Regier.
The Silver Bullet container on West Street (at the Public Safety building) will remain for now.
To keep this option available, please help us by:
- Flattening cardboard boxes before recycling
- Not leaving items outside the container
- Only recycling approved materials
- Viewing the full list of acceptable items at ecomaine’s Recyclopedia.
For the best recycling experience, we encourage you to use the Transfer Station compactor at 100 Hedgehog Mountain Road, open Wednesday–Saturday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This method reduces transportation costs and environmental impact by compacting materials before they’re sent to Portland—saving money for the town and taxpayers.
