Freeport News Tuesday

Civic Alerts - The bridges project was sparked when Maine DOT flagged the structural integrity of the bridges at Exits 20 & 22. The need for updating led to a community-minded initiative to mitigate the way Rte. 295 "splits" Freeport, leaving residents to depend upon driving to get from one side of Freeport to the other.

After a $634,000 bond for the project was passed by voters in 2021, work began on rebuilding the bridges. The plans included adding multi-use pathways along with sidewalks, so that pedestrians and bicyclists could safely and efficiently make their way from one side of town to the other, strengthening communities and businesses on both sides of the highway. This project also ties in nicely with the Village Corridor Initiative, opening doors for future growth.
