Maulian Bryant, Executive Director, Wabanaki Alliance - It has been a busy month of traveling the homelands and talking with Mainers about sovereignty and the impact of the Land Claims Act.
I had the pleasure of being the guest speaker at the Three Sisters Potluck at the First Parish Congregational Church in Gorham. It was a wonderful evening of discussion and great food. We made new friends and folks are excited to help build support for sovereignty.
We had the opportunity to work with two coalition partners this month. With the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), we presented to AMC members about our collaborations. The Maine Center for Economic Policy hosted a Lunch and Learn Panel Discussion on land stewardship and their recently released report. These conversations are so important.
The Judiciary Committee of the Maine Legislature heard from Wabanaki Chiefs and received a primer on the omnibus sovereignty bill and the federal beneficial acts legislation. Both of these bills are top priorities for the Wabanaki Alliance in the upcoming legislative session.
We thank Goodfire Tasting Room and Kitchen and Penobscot Chef Joe Robbins for their second annual collaboration fundraiser to support the work of the Alliance. Everywhere we go we feel the impact of your support for sovereignty. We know we have a ways to go, but we are honored to do so with you.
