  • Westbrook City Council election decided by 7 votes is headed for a recount 
  • Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau announced Friday he is endorsing Hannah Pingree’s campaign for governor. Pingree served four terms in the Maine Legislature, including as speaker of the House from 2008 to 2010, and was director of the Governor’s Office of Policy and Innovation prior to resigning in May. With Fecteau’s endorsement, Pingree has the support of one of the key leaders currently serving in the Legislature. 
  • Maine travelers are anxious, as the Federal Aviation Administration eliminates 10% of flights nationwide, starting at 4% Friday and ramping up gradually through Nov. 14. FAA officials say the flights must be canceled to maintain travel safety during the longest federal shutdown in U.S. history. At Portland International Jetport, at least 96% of flights are connected to 15 major airports directly impacted by FAA-required cancellations.
  • Gov. Janet Mills announced Friday afternoon that the Maine Department of Health and Human Services will fully fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for November. Because of the federal government shutdown, the Trump administration originally had said that SNAP benefits would not be available in November. The distribution of benefits will begin next week, between the 10th and 14th.
