News Center Maine - Secretary of State Shenna Bellows announced on Thursday that the No Labels Party is no longer a recognized political party in Maine. Bellows said the group notified her office in June 2024 that it did not intend to remain a qualified party. At the time, state law provided no means for a party to withdraw voluntarily once it had gained official status.

The federal government shut down Wednesday for the first time in nearly seven years after lawmakers could not agree on a temporary budget. How will the shutdown impact Mainers? A lot depends on how long the stoppage lasts and whether President Donald Trump follows through with threatened layoffs. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about what this means.
Andrew Benson, a Maine District Court judge, was officially nominated Tuesday to serve as U.S. attorney for the District of Maine. If confirmed by the Senate, Benson would succeed former U.S. Attorney Darcie McElwee, whom Trump fired in February. She had been nominated by former President Joe Biden. Benson, who grew up in Bethel and lives in Athens, was appointed to the District Court by Republican Gov. Paul LePage in 2014 and reappointed by Democratic Gov. Janet Mills in 2021. Prior to that, he was a prosecutor in the Office of the Maine Attorney General.
