- At Brunswick Landing, a Swedish medical technology company broke ground this week on a massive expansion to its facility. Mölnlycke Health Care will spend $135 million on an 78,000-square-foot expansion expected to be completed by late 2026 or early 2027. The company manufactures dressings for wounds at its Brunswick facility, located at the former naval air station.

- Hundreds of new Maine laws will take effect Wednesday, bringing changes to economic, housing and education policy, crime statutes and health care, among other things. Close to 500 laws were passed in the session that ended June 25. Some regulations, such as an increase in the cigarette tax from $2 per pack to $3.50 and a minimum wage for agricultural workers, won’t take effect until January.
- The city of Portland says it will consider using space at a shelter that has primarily housed asylum seekers to serve as the home for its overnight warming center this winter. Gov. Janet Mills and MaineHousing on Tuesday announced $2.3 million in grant funding to operate a dozen such warming shelters across the state. The 12 facilities will provide 338 beds in seven counties.
