- The Appalachian Mountain Club announced Tuesday it had completed the acquisition of the 29,000-acre Barnard Forest, which brings its Maine Woods Initiative holdings to 128,000 protected acres. Out of the 29,000-acre Barnard Forest acquisition, the AMC is repatriating a 1,700-acre parcel of wetlands and forest to the Penobscot Nation.
- The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Maine and its secretary of state for failing to provide voter registration lists, which include personal information such as names, birth dates and partial Social Security numbers, that it has demanded twice in recent months. Bellows has twice denied the DOJ’s request for the information, most recently in a letter on Sept. 8.
