Amazon is one step closer to establishing a foothold in southern Maine. The Gorham Town Council approved the $4 million sale of a 94-acre parcel off Main Street at a special meeting Tuesday evening. The sale is not final, however, and Amazon has not submitted a specific plan for what it would do with the parcel. The facility will require planning board approval before it can be built. A former U.S. Marine and oyster farmer from Hancock County announced Tuesday he is challenging U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, adding his name to a growing list of candidates in the 2026 race. Graham Platner, a Democrat, said he’s running for the Senate because while he’s been supported by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, he recognizes that others don’t have that benefit.
