Portland City Council approves moratorium on large concert venues

Portland schools received an anonymous $1 million donation – the largest one-time donation in the more than 30-year history of the Foundation for Portland Public Schools – the district announced Monday. Executive Director Andi Summers said the donors are alumni of Portland schools and wanted half of their gift to fund arts and music education specifically. The other $500,000 is unrestricted. The unemployment rate in Maine is on a historic run, and the state’s metropolitan areas have some of the lowest jobless rates in the nation, according to recent federal data. The Portland-South Portland area had the third-lowest unemployment rate at 2.2%. Lewiston-Auburn tied for 19th with a 2.9% unemployment rate, and the Bangor region tied for 28th at 3.0%.
