WMTW - A new train operator wants to start providing freight service between Brunswick and Rockland and has indicated interest in adding passenger service as well.
Cumberland & Knox Railroad LLC is an affiliate of Maine Switching Services LLC. C&K filed federal paperwork for a modified certificate of public convenience and necessity to operate the Rockland Branch line. That certificate was approved this week.
The Rockland Branch was authorized for abandonment in 1985 but was acquired by the state of Maine and is now set to be operated by C&K under a new lease agreement.
