Maine joins 2 more multistate lawsuits against Trump administration

Harpswell Anchor - Maine Senate President Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, has submitted a bill to the Legislature that would allow Harpswell’s working waterfront to bypass certain zoning rules to rebuild structures damaged during back-to-back coastal storms in January 2024.

The bill, L.D. 1864, would allow an exception for Harpswell property owners whose working docks, piers or wharves were damaged or destroyed in the twin storms. If passed, it would let the town grant variances to its shoreland zoning and floodplain management ordinances to repair or rebuild structures that don’t meet the typical threshold for approval.

Maine Beacon -  As people who live in mobile home parks around Maine are working in the legislature to put protections in place to avoid rent gouging, residents at one park in Norridgewock found out on Wednesday that the company that owns the land their houses sit on is raising their rents dramatically.   Diane Payzant received notice earlier this week that the owners of her Manufactured Housing Community (MHC, or more commonly mobile home park) would be once again increasing the rent – resulting in a total of a 125% increase within one year under new ownership.

Press Herald -  Spending cuts proposed by congressional Republicans would result in an estimated 34,000 Maine people losing Medicaid coverage, harming health care providers and patients, experts say.
