Freeport Hot Spots

 Wolfe's Neck Center: A sustainable coastal farm for nearly sixty years, Wolfe’s Neck Center is home to an oceanfront campground, leading demonstration farm, and educational resource center for innovative practices in regenerative agriculture. 

Desert of Maine - 20 acres of rolling sand dunes in the middle of a lush forest. It has rich history going back to the 1800s, and has been an iconic tourist destination in Maine for nearly 100 years.

Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park - Its popular trail carries visitors along Maine's legendary coast with a view of Casto Bay and its many islands. Visitors can enjoy picnics under a canopy of oak trees or a group barbeque at the park's shelter area. Groups may rent the shelter for a day.

South Freeport - South Freeport, the largest of Freeport's waterfront villages, once had four shipyards. Other businesses included fishing, canning and farming. In 1903, the Casco Castle and Amusement Park was built here  to encourage travel by trolley cars. The grounds featured a hotel and restaurant, a picnic area, a baseball field, and a small zoo. The hotel burned in 1914, but its stone tower was spared. It stands today on private property. The best place to view the tower is from nearby Winslow Park.

Freeport Historical Society- Harrington House at 45 Main Street  serves as the central hub for the Freeport Historical Society. It holds exhibition, and programmatic space, in addition to housing the organization’s archive, library, and collections. The FHS also maintains anineteenth century salt-water farm on the estuary of the Harraseeket River including an iconic saltbox house (ca. 1810) and 140 acres of fields, woods, antique apple orchards, and salt marsh for future generations.
